Frăsinești, Ungheni District, Republic of Moldova Located in the western part of Moldova, near the border with Romania, Frăsinești is a small village in Ungheni District with a history stretching back several centuries. The village was first mentioned in historical documents during the period of the Principality of Moldavia, when the region was dominated by agriculture, livestock farming, and trade. Like many villages in western Moldova, Frăsinești developed around fertile farmland and the close-knit rural communities that characterized the region for generations. Throughout its history, the village experienced the rule of the Principality of Moldavia, the Russian Empire after 1812, Greater Romania between 1918 and 1940, the Soviet Union, and finally independent Moldova after 1991. During the Soviet era, most residents worked in agriculture through collective farms, which became the backbone of the local economy. Schools, roads, and public buildings were expanded, and the village reached some of its highest population levels during the second half of the 20th century. Like many rural communities across Moldova, Frăsinești began to experience population decline after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Economic difficulties, emigration, and lower birth rates led many young residents to leave for larger cities or abroad in search of better opportunities. Today, Frăsinești remains a quiet rural settlement surrounded by fields, forests, and rolling hills.
